Time flies when you're having fun! Hard to believe this "little" guy
is already three months old! He is really starting to show us his
personality, which is pretty much happy, chill little dude. He smiles
all the time (although, of course not when I'm trying to catch it on
camera!). He's holding his head up fairly well now without support,
likes to sit upright so he can check out the world, and still loves to
watch anything Arjen. He's started to discover the joys of sucking on
his fingers...just tonight, he was working so hard on a knuckle that
it's all red now. All I can say is that we are some super-duper, lucky
parents.
I'm pretty convinced that no mom in the world can refrain from comparing her kids to one another. At least I tell myself that. I can't help but try to remember what Arjen was like "at that age" every time I look at Gus. Well, not every time, but fairly often. Purely for my own memory's sake, not to try and truly compare the boys. Thank goodness for technology! And maternal consistency. ;) It just so happens, I have taken nearly the same video of each boy, at just about the same age. So, for my "baby book blog" memory, here goes a live "comparison." I figure at least one other person out there who follows our blog may be curious to see it too. I have to say, they're both more similar, and yet more different, but mostly similar(?) than I initially "remembered." Oh, and I recommend simultaneous play. Just turn down the volume if you're not a fan of Baby Einstein's choice of music. :)
We've been enjoying the summer weather at Camp Grandma and Grandpa, also known as "Baba" and "Day" (short for Dave, which Arjen all of a sudden decided to start calling him). Arjen has made friends with Summer down the street, and the two of them ride their bikes out in the street almost every day it seems! Every time I go out in the front yard with him, he looks to the corner and says "Sum Sum" wondering where his buddy is. It is too cute! Summer is almost 3, and after watching her on the Strider the first day, Arjen has really learned how to go faster and seems to be close to almost gliding!
He's also having fun playing in the sprinklers, and in the kiddy pool, and on the bouncy horse, and at the park, and at Baba's Kindergarten class, and, and, and... :) Suffice it to say, Camp Baba and Day is the place to be!
Gus is thriving as well. I'm convinced he's grown another inch and a few pounds. I've just pulled out all the 3-6 month size clothes for him since he's getting too long for the 3 month old clothes, and he's not even 3 months yet! He gets more and more expressive every day, and still cannot take his eyes off big bro. I look forward to, yet also fear, the day these two are both mobile and in cahoots with each other! Gus has started reaching for things, finally starting to put two and two together that those long things at the end of his arms are useful for bringing the world closer to his mouth! (Maybe it was the lesson Arjen gave him?)
Well, I finally bit the bullet and took Arjen in for his first
haircut! It was quite an experience, which he handled extremely well
considering it was lunch time/nap time and a potentially traumatizing
situation (from what I hear). While I miss the long surfer dude look
he had, I am loving the fact that I no longer have to brush hair out
of his eyes every 5 seconds, and that there is absolutely no mistaking
him for a girl now!
So the time flew by with one kid, but with two, well I don't even know what day of the week it is anymore! Are we really in May already? Guess that means I didn't get a post up for Gus on his 2 month bday, but I'm making it in just under the 1 week belated mark at least! It's been an incredible 2 months so far. Many changes, but life is easy with two such resilient kids and an amazing partner. But I diverge, this post is about my baby Gus!
He has become a very chatty baby this past week, telling us all about his day, admiring his older brother, and showing off his beautiful smile! I think he really likes to hold hands too, as he is always reaching towards us and gives an even bigger smile when you grab his hand! I'm amazed as well, with how enthralled he is when watching Arjen. You can tell he is just cataloging all the ways he is going to try and do everything his brother does as soon as he can! His neck is getting stronger - he'll hold it fairly still for moments at a time when being held upright, but still isn't quite strong enough to lift it fully up when on his belly...not that baby #2 gets the devoted tummy time that baby #1 does, but I'm sure he'll figure it out when he's ready.
And with that, my available time to sit and type is gone. Especially considering I started typing two days ago...
